The challenge Safeguarding businesses against the cybersecurity storm As research began to quantify Italy's cybercrime problem—one study ranked it fourth worst in the world for ransomware attacks, while another revealed 92% of Italian companies suffered a cyberattack within the past year—TIM, the country's leading telecommunications and ICT group, was already working to secure its business customers against a rising surge of phishing, ransomware, and other malware threats. "A single security incident can devastate a business by initially disrupting its operation and subsequently destroying its reputation among clients whose data and trust has been breached," says Salvatore Nappi, head of IT business marketing at TIM. "As Italy's digital partner, TIM was driven to find a way to protect our 600,000 small- to mid-sized business customers against the lost revenue, uptime, and customer confidence caused by cyberattacks." Responding to this pressing market need required a new solution supported by a new approach in which the security which businesses had long considered a necessary cost was reframed as an investment in digital acceleration. "Our customers are smart businesspeople able to quickly recognize the power of security as a digital enabler, a concept reinforced by TIM's own example," says Nappi. "By introducing boldly innovative cybersecurity services to protect our customers, TIM would also create a compelling competitive differentiator and with it, a new revenue opportunity." " As Italy's digital partner, TIM was driven to find a way to protect our 600,000 small- to mid-sized business customers against the lost revenue, uptime, and customer confidence caused by cyberattacks."
