(1110R) The solution By deploying Cisco Umbrella for MSPs to all its customer endpoints, Mirus was able to proactively protect its customers and significantly decrease time spent on dealing with infected machines. This reduced the overall infection count and slashed the number of rebuilds it needed to make by 40%. Just counting the decrease in these rebuild hours, Mirus saved £60,000 per year in engineering costs. Deploying Umbrella for MSPs to its 7,500 endpoints was made simple thanks to the ability to script deployment through Mirus' Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) solution. According to Tomlinson, "Onboarding a new customer takes about an hour, from deployment to their endpoints to customization". "We really like the ability to co-brand Umbrella," says Tomlinson. "Every Umbrella interaction with our customers is branded for Mirus IT, which builds trust in the service for our customers." Since offering Umbrella for MSPs to their customers, Mirus IT has added 35% additional endpoints, but has seen a reduction in the amount of time spent on infections and rebuilds. "We've reduced the number of rebuilds by 40%. This is a massive saving in engineering time, and more convenient for our customers who don't have to put up with machine swap-outs." "We would have had to employ two full time engineers to deal with the infections we would expect to see on 7,500 endpoints." The savings to Mirus IT in terms of salary and other expenses is in excess of £60,000 a year. Furthermore, "A typical rebuild for us would be 8 hours," says Tomlinson. "With Umbrella we can deal with issues in as little as 15 minutes." Umbrella also saved Mirus considerable engineering time thanks to its strong integration with Autotask. Umbrella for MSPs prevents infections over the network layer but also contains any threats that may have made it through. Alerts for any infections being contained now go directly from Umbrella into Mirus' Autotask Service Desk to allow engineers to be more proactive and address them as they are contained. "Before integration, engineers wouldn't necessarily log time spent dealing with infections. Now, thanks to the integration, we capture all time." As a result of these savings, Mirus chose to offer Umbrella to customers at no additional charge. "As a Managed Service Provider (MSP) we work on a fixed cost, so it's up to us to reduce our cost of supporting the customer," explained Tomlinson. In addition to the cost savings Mirus has made through deploying Umbrella to customer sites, Tomlinson believes providing Umbrella to customers gives them a competitive advantage in sales situations. "By offering Umbrella at no charge, we demonstrate to prospective customers that we will help them with improving their productivity, not just managing their IT infrastructure. Umbrella is an investment for Mirus IT," says Tomlinson. Results: • Despite an increase in endpoints of 35% to 7,500, by deploying Cisco Umbrella for MSPs, Mirus has reduced the overall amount of time they spend dealing with spyware infections • Reduced infections and number of customer workstation rebuilds by 40% • £60,000 (approximately $99,700 USD) saved annually
