The challenge Securing end users under attack Since Richard O'Keefe founded Your Tech Team in 2008 to provide healthcare, architecture, engineering, and financial services clients with the best technology support experience possible, the nature of the specific technology support they need has rapidly evolved. "Over time, we've seen the pace of phishing, ransomware, and other end-user attacks intensify, and our clients have grown increasingly mobile," he says, "The focus of our meetings with prospective clients has shifted from systems maintenance to information security, the discussion of which now accounts for at least 25% of every new business meeting." Prioritizing security has become a must. "Clients are constantly and quite literally under attack these days, with end users bearing the brunt of attacks through web browsing, email, and especially the minefield of social media platforms and their potentially hazardous embedded content," says O'Keefe. "In order to deliver the most effective protection to our clients, we needed the best possible security solution." The solution DNS-layer protection that extends beyond the network An initial search led O'Keefe's team to explore a vendor offering protection for endpoints and networks, as well as cloud-based threat intelligence services. As they always do when evaluating a new solution, Your Tech Team first deployed it internally. "We were surprised by its lack of coverage; its protection did not extend outside of the network. We felt that our clients would still be exposed to threats that we knew Cisco Umbrella would mitigate." O'Keefe says, "There were significant latency concerns as well." With a relatively thin feature set and multiple issues that made it a poor fit for the company's—and its clients'—mobile workforces, that product was removed from further consideration, but interest in DNS- level security brought Your Tech Team to Cisco Umbrella for MSPs. "By working at the DNS layer, Umbrella for MSPs blocks threats before they can reach the network, and Cisco Umbrella Roaming Client extends that protection to any device, whether users are in the office or on the go," says O'Keefe. "With its ability to proactively shield both on-network and remote users from the malware, command and control attacks, and phishing threats that seem to lurk around every corner online, we knew Umbrella for MSPs was the right solution for our clients." " By working at the DNS layer, Umbrella for MSPs blocks threats before they can reach the network, and Cisco Umbrella Roaming Client extends that protection to any device, whether users are in the office or on the go."
